Feed efficiency
To select animal on feed efficiency, Nucléus decided to use, ON FARMS, automatic feeding equipments. 5 breeding farms have already been equipped.
More than 2000 Pietrain Boars, all candidate to enter in AIC, are tested individually each year.

Pietrain by Nucléus entering in AIC are selected according to the best combination [ Growth x Backfat x Muscle x Feed Conversion Ratio].
This FCR data gathering gait has 2 purposes:
- to select best boars according to their own individual performances.
- increase accuracy of BLUP evaluation on this criteria
This protocol has been extended to other breed. Indeed in 2017, 700 Landrace boars have been individually tested for FCR, improving the accuracy of or BLUP evaluation.
In 2020 :
0,1 pt of FCR during the fattening period for a production farm represents :
- 45 € / sow
- 2 cts € / kg of carcass
